Our aim is simple: help you understand a home project before you start it. This page explains how we approach the guides on Homeformations.com.au.
What we publish
Practical guides on repairs, cleaning, renovation, decorating, gardening and everyday home maintenance. Each guide aims to cover what the job involves, the tools and materials you need, the steps, typical costs and common mistakes.
How we research
We aim to base our guides on reliable sources, such as manufacturer instructions, industry bodies, government and regulator guidance, and relevant standards. Where rules differ between states and territories, we say so and point you to the right authority to check.
Safety and licensing
Some jobs, such as electrical, gas, structural and waterproofing work, can only be done by a licensed professional. When a guide touches on one of these, we flag it clearly and explain what you can do yourself and what you should leave to a licensed tradesperson.
Costs and prices
Any costs we mention are typical estimates to help you plan. They are not quotes, and real prices vary by location, materials and the condition of your home.
Independence
We do not sell products or services, list tradespeople or take payment to promote a particular brand. Our guides are written to inform, not to sell.
Keeping guides current
Every guide shows its publication date. We review and update guides when we find that information, rules or costs have changed.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake or something out of date, please tell us through our contact page. We will review it and correct the guide where needed.
Contributors
Guest articles must meet the same standards as our own and are edited before publishing. See Write for Us for our guidelines.
